Yvonne Thomas Dunham, 88, of Mont Vernon, NH, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 11, 2026. She was born on September 1, 1938 in Minersville, PA, to Morgan and Florence (Schindler) Thomas.
Yvonne was a coal miner’s daughter who dreamed of a world beyond her hometown limits and followed a path of imagination, curiosity, and continuous learning to reach it. After graduating high school in 1956 and Goldey-Beacom secretarial school in 1957, she began an adventure that took her to nearly all fifty states, more than twenty countries, and into the lives of many fortunate people.
She met her husband Larry during a ski trip to Vermont and they were married on July 29, 1967. Yvonne provided a secure foundation as the family moved across the United States and abroad. She was an explorer and introduced her family and friends to the world around them; museums, libraries, summer playhouse musicals, historical sights, and the natural splendor of New England were all actively pursued. She found inspiration in art, history, books, travel, sports, politics, family, and in her deep Christian faith. She lived her life with compassion, forgiveness, and sincere care for those less fortunate.
With her quick mind, attention to detail, and high standards, she was an exemplary administrative assistant for over twenty years, first in the patent department of Hercules and later at the United Nations and St. Joseph’s Hospital. Ever the student, she proudly achieved a lifelong goal when she graduated with a degree in History from the University of New Hampshire in 1995.
She is survived by her husband Larry Dunham, her daughter Carla (Steve Soraparu) Dunham, sons Aaron (Jennifer) Dunham, Jed Dunham, and Luke Dunham; grandchildren Shawna, Kate, Riley, Will, John, and Nancy and an extended family of nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 24th at 3:00 pm at Bethany Covenant Church, H1 Covenant Way, Bedford, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
