William Leonard "Billy" Ingraham, 88, of Milford, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at his home on August 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 19, 1937, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Billy was the beloved son of Carl Ingraham and Hilda Daniels. He grew up in Brookline, New Hampshire, where he spent most of his life.
After graduating from high school, Billy immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he earned the rank of Corporal while serving as a jet mechanic. Following his active-duty service, Billy returned home after the unexpected passing of his father. He selflessly gave up a promising military career to help care for his widowed mother and younger siblings in Brookline.
Throughout his life, Billy worked in several occupations, including insurance sales with Metropolitan and many years working in the civil engineering field. He spent most of his career as the Customer Service Manager at the family business, Tapply Lumber, in Brookline. Billy's favorite part of the job was building lasting relationships with customers and always taking care of their needs. After the family business closed, he continued working at another longtime family-owned business in Brookline, Bingham Lumber, where he remained until his retirement.
Billy proudly served as a volunteer firefighter with the Brookline, New Hampshire Fire Department for more than 20 years. He cherished the lifelong friendships he made there and remained close with many of those he served alongside over the years.
Billy enjoyed life's simple pleasures and the people he shared them with. Whether he was playing poker with friends, cheering on his beloved New York Yankees (despite being born and raised in Brookline!), deer and rabbit hunting, golfing, or reminiscing about his years playing baseball with the Brookline Aces, he was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Billy also had a lifelong love of dogs, a passion he proudly passed on to each of his children, who will always think of him whenever they see a wagging tail.
He is survived by his four loving children, Melissa Ingraham (Matt), Meghan Elliott (Bob), Tracy Riendeau (Allan), and Carl Ingraham (Deborah); his sisters, Elaine Velasquez (Angel) and Nadine Allen (Jack); his cherished grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Billy was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 46 years, Susan Ingraham; his parents, Carl and Hilda Ingraham; and his siblings, Shirley Hussey, Richard Ingraham, and Bruce Ingraham.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, August 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Smith & Heald Funeral Home in Milford, New Hampshire. A private celebration of Billy's life will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post 74 in Brookline, New Hampshire.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Billy leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, quick wit, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
