Suzanne Eakin Jones (Susu) of Amherst, NH, died peacefully on June 10, 2026.
Born in Washington, DC, the eldest of 5 children of John R. Eakin, Sr. and Ruth Reilly Eakin, she graduated from both Georgetown Visitation and Bennett College in Millbrook, NY. She met her husband of 62 years, Ken Jones, at a cousin's wedding and after marriage, Ken's work took them to upstate Homer, New York, where they raised their children, Betsy and Casey, and began the decades of partnership and adventure. Suzanne's interests in Homer included bird watching, Garden Club, Singing and Sailing Club on Skaneateles Lake, where she ran the committee boat for the club's regattas. Also, during these years, Suzanne fostered her love of antiques and history through volunteer work with The 1890 House Museum and through travel and adventures with her close group of very knowledgeable friends. Further work assignments relocated the family to England and Scotland where Suzanne used any free time to soak up the rich history that surrounded her. When Ken and Sue moved to New Hampshire, she added politics to her lengthy list of interests, often getting involved in local, state and national campaigns. Weekly birdwatching outings usually punctuated a week filled with learning about any subject that remotely interested her, making her a fierce opponent for the nightly Jeopardy game and a crossword puzzle maven. Keenly visual, Suzanne took great pride in designing and furnishing every home in which she lived, giving each a unique flair with her personal style. When people learned of her passing, phrases often used were: "twinkly eyes” “strong wit", "silly sense of humor" and "gift of gab."
She is survived by Ken, Betsy (Derek), Casey (Kendra) and grandchildren Connor Grimes, Lucy Jones, Poppy Jones, sister Nancy Eakin Brodsky and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, 12pm at the family home on Lake Winnisquam. Details given upon request via Betsy or Casey.
