Susan (Donohue) Chimento

It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Susan Mary Donohue Chimento on November 29, 2024, aged 85. 

She was born April 12, 1939 to Dick and Daisy Donohue, and was the oldest of 5 children. Raised in Hallstead PA, she graduated from Blue Ridge High School of New Milford, PA in 1957 and then completed Registered Nurse training at Wilson Hospital of Binghamton, NY in 1960. While a nurse in the Binghamton area, she met the man who would become her husband, Carmen C. Chimento. With her quiet resolve and devotion to her husband and children, she was the glue holding the family together through moves to TX, PA, MA, NH, RI, and NJ, before settling down in Brookline, NH in 1978. 

Her 40 year nursing career started in Binghamton, NY and continued as an Emergency Room nurse at Memorial Hospital (now SNHRMC) in Nashua, NH, and finished as a home health traveling nurse in Southern NH. A born caretaker, she strove to bring to nursing the same dedication and generosity she showed her family and friends. In retirement, she and Carmen cared for her mother Daisy, who had the same slow moving memory loss that Susan herself would later develop. She was an excellent baker with a voracious sweet tooth, a supporter of her children, a proud grandmother, and a loving "Mom" to her dogs. She and her husband enjoyed their retirement together - wide ranging discussions, listening to bluegrass music, going on a tour of Sicily and Italy, doing crossword puzzles together, and taking care of each other. In recent years they were rarely far from each other's sides. 

Susan is predeceased by her parents Dick and Daisy Donohue and her brothers Paul and Michael Donohue. 

She is survived by her husband Carmen C. Chimento; her sister Sarah Burke; her brother Terry Donohue; her children Barrett Blake, Karen Chimento (and partner Pam Crosby), Dina Comeau, and Carmen E. Chimento; her stepson Tony Chimento (and wife Kandy); her grandchildren Tyler, Christina, Conrad, Leslie, Will, Matthew, Nicholas, Anna, and Willow; and her great grandchildren Gideon, Jude, and Thea; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. "She will be missed" does not capture the enormity of our loss. 

Calling hours will be from 1-3pm on Saturday Dec. 7, 2024 in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street in Milford, NH. A graveside service will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hallstead, PA, at 3pm on Saturday Dec. 14, 2024.
