Steven M. Sareault, 60, of Bar Harbor, ME died peacefully surrounded by family on May 7, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born in Norwood, MA on September 20, 1965, a son of Dorothy and Roger Sareault. Steve attended the University of New Hampshire where he received a degree in Civil Engineering and met his wife, Martha. Steve and Martha married in 1990, and he treasured being warmly embraced as a member of Martha’s family.
Shortly after their wedding, Steve and Martha embarked on a road trip to their first home as a couple in Arizona. They continued to enjoy exploring many different parts of the United States while living in eight different states throughout their marriage. Most recently, Steve and Martha relocated to Bar Harbor, Maine where they spent much of their time walking, hiking, and biking in Acadia National Park.
While a civil engineer by education, he spent a significant amount of his career as a construction project manager overseeing projects at hospitals, schools, museums and more across the country. Steve’s organizational and planning skills, coupled with his ability to work with people toward a common goal, were key contributors to his successful career. Steve was also an active community member, especially in Milford, NH where he served on the Planning Board, Select Board and with the Rotary Club.
Steve truly enjoyed home improvement and maintenance including a dedication to property care and the construction of sheds, swings, and treehouses to name a few. He always seemed to find a new little project around the house that made it just a bit nicer. All aspects of Steve’s life were meticulously organized including his most recent home project, the building of a workbench where all screws, nuts, bolts, and tools had their designated space.
While self-described as an under-the-radar, ordinary kind of guy, Steve offered so much to others. He knew when it was the right time to listen, share constructive advice or showcase his subtle and perfectly timed sense of humor.
Steve regarded taking care of his family as his greatest and most important accomplishment. The pride and love he had for his wife and kids was immeasurable.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Martha; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Matthew Hunt of North Conway, NH, Mary Beth and Josh Clemens of Derry, NH and their daughter Finley. He is also survived by many extended family members.
The family plans to celebrate Steve’s life privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center, 23 Commerce Park, Ellsworth ME, 04605, a welcome source of support for Steve and his family during his illness or by becoming a blood donor with the American Red Cross as Steve was a proud Power Red blood donor.
