Roy A. Taylor, 89, lifelong resident of Milford, died on January 14, 2014 at Crestwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Milford surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Milford on August 4, 1924, a son of Harold I. and Marion E. (Towne) Taylor. He graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1942. Mr. Taylor spent his working life as a carpenter and had worked for Elgin Burtt Builders, Ye Old Village Builders and Overhead Door Company. He had been an active member of The First Baptist Church of Milford, where he had served as a teacher and former superintendent of Sunday school. He served on the Board of Elders and was also known as the children’s story teller at church. In addition, he was a member of the Granite Grange #7 and the Milford Historical Society. Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II and a member of Ricciardi Hartshorn Post #23, American Legion, Milford. Family members include his wife of 59 years, Gertrude “Trudy” (Spaeth) Taylor of Milford; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Cheryl Taylor, David I. Taylor, all of Milford; four grandchildren, Heather, Christopher, Matthew and Grace Taylor; a sister, Hazel Corey of Brookline; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Spaeth and Madeline Spaeth, both of Switzerland, several nieces, nephews and cousins. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 20th at 11:00 am in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Burial with military honors will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
