Robert Emery "Bud" Lewis

Robert Emery “Bud” Lewis was born on February 27,1937 in Vinita, Oklahoma to Robert Earl and Echo Fern (Lucky) Lewis. He graduated from Oklahoma State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1959. He began his long career as a nuclear chemist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. He then moved to Oakland, CA. working for General Electric. In 1978 he began working for New England Nuclear Laboratory (later Bristol Myers Squibb) in Billerica, MA. He had many notable accomplishments as a nuclear chemist including developing a device to convert heat to 5% electrical energy to power a radio transmitter of weather data for the North Pole. He was responsible for developing Carrier free Y90 for liver/pancreas treatment. He wrote over 50 scientific papers and registered 11 patents over 44 years in the nuclear field.

He married LaVerta Smith on January 25, 1957, and they had two sons and a daughter, David Emery Lewis (Donna), Phillip Sorenson (Christopher) and Thela Lewis. They were married for over 55 years until her untimely death in 2012. He married Mary A. Bishop on December 21, 2013, and converted to Catholicism in 2014. They split their time between homes in Bedford, NH and Longwood FL. Bud loved collecting unusual items including Cats eye gemstones and Indian spearheads and axes. He also loved gardening and music.

He is survived by his wife Mary, his three children listed above, also John Bishop (Beth Cook), Mike Bishop (Melissa), Bill Bishop (Linda) and Bob Bishop (Mandi); grandchildren: Zachary E. Lewis (Elise), Dave Andrew Lewis (Michelle) and Angela Lewis Lemieux (Matthew), Amelia Bishop, Juniper Cook-Bishop (Ellie), Joseph Bishop (Emily), Leah Bishop (Lizzie), Camille Bishop, Eddie Bishop, Tucker Bishop, Thomas Bishop along with three great grandchildren Gabriel Lemieux, Alanna Lemieux and Jayda Lewis.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 14th at 11am at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, 190 Meetinghouse Road, Bedford, NH. Burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery, 454 Nashua Street, Milford, NH.
