Robert H. Brodeur, 87, died January 2, 2019, at his home in Amherst NH, after a period of declining health, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 28, 1931 in Nashua to J.C. Henry and Rebecca (Ravenelle) Brodeur. He graduated from Assumption High School in Worcester, MA in 1949 and then served in the US Army and fought during the Korean War as a member of the 2nd Infantry Division. He was awarded several medals and service stars. In 1955, he married Constance L. Bossé, also of Nashua, and together they raised three children. During their retirement years together, they lived happily in The Villages, FL, enjoying a great social life and an active lifestyle with their family and many friends from all over the country. After several years in the family grocery store on Chestnut St., Bob went on to work for the Public Service Co. of NH for most of his adult life, both as a meter and appliance repairman. Before retiring and moving to Florida, he drove a school bus for the Hollis/Brookline school district, a job that he loved very much. He especially enjoyed taking the kids on field trips to Boston. A life-long Catholic, he was a communicant of every parish he belonged to, first St. Aloysius Gonzaga in Nashua, and, in his final years, St. John Neumann in Merrimack. Bob was an avid reader of westerns and mystery novels and an enthusiastic fan of all Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox. He liked listening to classical music and introduced the family to the Boston Pops and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping with his family and friends especially sitting around a campfire at night. He loved driving his RV around the country. Most of all he loved to play cribbage, his favorite card game of all. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Constance Lorraine in 2016, as well as by his three siblings, Gloria, Luc and Henrietta. The family includes three children: Michael R. Brodeur and wife, Esther, of Nashua, Scott N. Brodeur of Rome, Italy and Cynthia L. (Brodeur) Dow and husband, Ray, of Amherst; three granddaughters, Melissa (Brodeur) Cabral and her husband Kyle, Kristin Brodeur and her fiancé David Mandaglio, and Andrea Dow and her fiancé Alex Sitton; and two great grandchildren, Chase and Madison Cabral; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 7th from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, Milford, NH. His son Scott, a Jesuit priest, will celebrate his mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, January 8th at 10:00 am at St. John Neumann Church in Merrimack, NH. Concelebrants are most welcome. Interment is at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the NH Veterans Cemetery Association, Inc., in recognition of Bob’s military service, please visit nhvca.org.
