Renate “Reni” E. Doray, 88, of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026.
Reni was born Renate Erika Gruhnert on February 11, 1938, in Königsberg, Prussia, to Kurt Erich Gruhnert and Frieda Anna Lasogga. After losing their home during World War II, her family endured years of hardship before eventually settling in Helmstedt, Germany. There, she met her first husband, Philip D Rand, before immigrating to the United States in 1963 and settling in Princeton, Massachusetts.
Reni spent more than 50 years in Princeton, where she built lasting friendships and was often found on the tennis court, her favorite place, playing with fierce determination and a competitive spirit. At home, she loved cooking traditional German meals, including sauerkraut, cabbage rolls, and the family favorite, German pork chops.For the past 30 years, Reni shared a loving life with her devoted husband, Melvin Doray. Together they enjoyed golf, gardening, and competitive games of cribbage.
After many happy years in Princeton, they eventually settled in Nashua, New Hampshire, in 2013.Known lovingly as “Omi” by her family, Reni is survived by her husband, Melvin Doray; her daughter, Jenifer Yandell and her husband, Tony Yandell; her grandchildren, Melissa Sage and her husband, Cory Sage, and Benjamin Yandell and his fiancée, Lyndsey Jimenez; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Penelope and Evelyn Sage.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Abigail Yandell, as well as her mother, eight siblings, and extended family members in Germany.Reni will be remembered for her spirited and sassy personality, her impeccably kept home, her independence, and the meaningful way she connected with those she loved. Her vibrant spirit, strength, and resilience will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A private burial will be held in Hollis, with a memorial gathering to follow at a later date.
