Rebecca E. Leighton

Rebecca (Betty) E. Leighton, 98, resident of Milford, NH, died on September 14, 2015 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lowell, MA on September 7, 1917, a daughter of Leon and Hazel (Holden) Seekins and was raised and educated in Lowell. Mrs. Leighton made her home in Milford, NH for the past 25 years and formerly lived in North Palm Beach, FL. Prior to living in Florida, she lived and raised her two children in Tewksbury, MA. While there she did volunteer work for the Red Cross, SPCCA, Girls Club, Friends of Tewksbury, and Florence Crittenton League of Lowell. She was a homemaker for most of her life and loved spending time with her family. In addition, she enjoyed golfing, knitting, reading and traveling. Mrs. Leighton was predeceased by her husband, Howard H. Leighton and a son, Robert H. Leighton. Family members include her daughter, Linda S. Freeman of Milford, NH; and two grandchildren whom she adored, Joshua M. Freeman and Stephanie S. Freeman. There are no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18th at 10:00 a.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. Burial will follow in Lowell Cemetery, 77 Knapp Avenue, Lowell, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O.
