Phyllis Lee Abraham, 86, died peacefully at home in Brookline NH, on August 23, 2023.
Phyllis was born on September 25, 1936 in Brooklyn NY, to Emmanuel and Bertha Popowsky. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Phyllis went to work for Chase Manhattan Bank. She married Leonard Abraham, her husband of 66 years, on March 9, 1957. They soon started a family, and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. A move to North Miami Beach, Florida followed, before they returned to New York with their three children.
Phyllis enjoyed volunteering as a leader for her children's Cub Scout and Brownie troops, playing cards with her weekly poker group, and cooking delicious daily meals for her family. When her children were older, she worked various jobs, including many years for the IRS. She loved to travel, taking many trips to the Caribbean, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Europe, Mexico, and throughout the continental United States. Later in life, she traveled to Alaska, China, and Israel, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
After living in Las Vegas for many years, Phyllis and Leonard moved to Brookline, NH. She enjoyed playing bingo at the senior center in Pepperell MA, where she shared her mahjong expertise with new players. She was an avid reader, and loved crocheting blankets for her family.
Survivors include her husband Leonard, son Lee Abraham of Austin, TX, daughter Wendella Abraham of San Francisco, CA, daughter and son-in-law Tina and Jeffrey McEvoy of Brookline NH, and grandchildren Jack and Nathaniel McEvoy.
A private service will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to David's House in Lebanon, NH.
