Mathilde (Hilde) Ross, 91, longtime resident of Milford, NH, died peacefully in her sleep at home on April 8, 2016. She was born in Dobra, Germany on June 11, 1924, a daughter of Johann and Berta (Zeph) Hain. Hilde endured the difficult times pre and post WWII Germany. She met her husband Fred in Germany, where he was stationed with the Army. They married in 1964 in Schwabach, Bavaria, Germany. Hilde left Germany and moved to the United States with her husband where she had made her home in Milford for the past 45 years. Hilde was an amazing, hardworking and humorous woman. She took great pride in everything she did, whether working outside or inside the home. She actively supported her children in their activities and education. She was an impressive cook, gardener and knitter. Hilde never forgot her heritage and felt blessed for the life she had. Hilde loved traveling to new places but always returned to Las Vegas, one of her favorite (and luckiest) destinations. Most of all Hilde enjoyed time at home with her family. Those fortunate to have known Hilde were blessed to experience her loving grace, beauty and wisdom. She was predeceased by her son, Karlheinz Gerngrob, and a number of brothers and sisters. Family members include her husband of 52 years, Fred R. Ross of Milford; two daughters, Carola J. “Carrie” Ross of Amherst, NH and Audrey B. Ross of Goffstown, NH; and survived also by her sister, Liddi Krippendorf, of Helmbrechts, Germany, nephew Seigfried Gerstel, his son, Michael Gerstel, both of Burkersreuth, Germany, niece, Doris Tritschler, of Reutlingen, Germany, nephew, Ronald Krippendorf of Helmbrechts, Germany. Brother in laws: Robert I. Ross, Milford, NH, David E. Ross, Amherst NH, nephew John S. Ross III Nashua, NH, and niece, Kylee B. Ross, Hollis, NH. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 15th at 4:00 p.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
