Mai Ala-Nisula, 76, resident of Brookline, NH, died on April 19, 2026, just one day after her birthday at the Elms Center, Milford, NH, after a period of declining health.
She was born on April 18, 1950, in Finland, a daughter of the late Erkki and Annikki (Kapiainen) Ala-Nisula.
Mai and her family immigrated to the United States when she was the age of three, beginning a life defined by independence and a deep appreciation for living life on her own terms. Mai lived exactly how she wanted, embracing each moment fully.
Mai spent her career as a dedicated Medical Technologist and her work reflected her steady commitment and care for others. Outside of work she found her greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life - sunshine, the water, spending time with friends and family, and traveling. She cherished her annual vacations to tropical locations, places where she could relax and soak up the warmth that she loved so much.
She will be remembered for her love of life, her determination, and her unmistakable presence.
Mai is survived by her brother Esko Ala-Nisula and his wife Peggy Ala-Nisula; her niece Anna Deslauriers and her husband Jamison Deslauriers and their daughter Eve Deslauriers; her longtime life partner Joe Dewing, his son and daughter Russell Dewing, and Lisa Dewing.
Mai's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her
SERVICES: Following a cremation, burial will be private for her family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
