Leonard I. Abraham

Emblem

The world has lost a truly remarkable soul with the passing of Leonard Irving Abraham on October 20, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on June 30, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, Leonard lived a life overflowing with love, laughter, and achievement, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Leonard, affectionately known as Lenny, was the cherished son of Samuel and Alice (Ducat) Abraham. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis Lee Abraham, and his younger brother, David Abraham. He is survived by his brother Eugene, his sister-in-law Toby, his sister-in-law Stephanie, his devoted children Lee, Wendy, and Tina, his son-in-law Jeff, and his adored grandchildren, Jade and Nathaniel.

Leonard's life was a testament to dedication and excellence. A bright young student, he graduated early from Tilden High School and went on to pursue a degree in Liberal Arts at Brooklyn College. His commitment to service was evident in his three years with the Marine Corps, where he earned both the Good Conduct Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

His professional journey was as distinguished as his personal life. Leonard carved out a successful career as an independent insurance agent before rising to become the President and CEO of Fraternal Group Service, a Blue Cross/Blue Shield Agency in New York City. His professional integrity and leadership were admired by colleagues and clients alike.

Leonard and his beloved Phyllis married on March 9, 1957, embarking on a lifetime of shared adventures and family joy. Together, they explored the world, indulging in their love for travel, theater, and the opera. Leonard was also known for his passion for puzzles, card games, and the thrill of Las Vegas, always maintaining his sharp wit and charm.

A man of striking good looks and a beautiful singing voice, Leonard was celebrated for his humor, honesty, and grounded nature. He often reminded those around him to "straighten up and fly right," a testament to his values and moral compass.

In addition to his many accomplishments, Leonard found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether it was solving a complex puzzle or savoring exotic foods at a buffet. His zest for life and laughter was infectious, and he left an enduring legacy of love and kindness.

A service to honor Leonard’s extraordinary life will be held on October 28, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Center, located at 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH 03033.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Leonard’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, a cause dear to his heart.
