Kevin James Hunt, 62, passed away peacefully on August 25, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his immediate family, close friends with their puppy Toffer, and his devoted dog Norway.
He was a man of tradition, passion, and deep connection—someone who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Born to Keith and Jane Hunt, Kevin grew up in a close-knit family with his two older brothers, Steven and Brian, and surrounded by countless aunts, uncles, and cousins. With family origins in Vermont, Kevin loved the Green Mountain State, especially late-summer family reunions, time spent with cousins hiking and biking, and enjoying hunting season “up to camp.”
He attended Indiana University and later transferred to and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1986. A gifted competitive swimmer from the age of 9, Kevin swam for both schools and continued his love of swimming throughout his life. He completed impressive open-water swims while living in California and later across Lake Champlain in VT, and Long Lake in Maine. He shared his passion with future generations of swimmers while coaching the Southern NH Fins for more than 20 years. He mentored young athletes and led annual challenge events that combined winter camping, hiking, and life skills—experiences that shaped lives and built resilience. Kevin continued to compete, himself, with the local Masters Swim Team, the Granite State Penguins.
An outdoor and adventure enthusiast, Kevin found joy in hunting, motorcycles, firearms, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, and camping amid the serenity of nature. Whether good weather or bad and known for his sharp sense of style, one of his favorite sayings was, “There is no bad weather, just bad clothing.”
Friends and family will remember Kevin for his boundless curiosity and generosity. He loved meeting people and making friends wherever he went. He seemed to know something about everything, and he was always eager to share his knowledge and stories--whether about his childhood, his years on the swim team, his dogs’ frisbee skills, or his travels to Africa and beyond. Friends affectionately referred to the experience as being “caught in a Kevin story”—always detailed, sometimes long, but always memorable.
Professionally, Kevin thrived in high-tech sales. His attention to detail and remarkable memory made him a standout in his field.
Kevin’s love for cars—especially Mustangs—was matched only by his devotion to family, friends, and his cherished dogs: Kingston, Maple, Rogan, Daphne, and Norway, and his cats Prowler, Porsche, and Peaches. His affection for all things maple was well know and was more than a flavor preference—it was a reflection of his warmth and sweet soul.
Kevin and his loving wife of 35 years, Donna, shared a deep appreciation for nature and quiet moments together. They found joy in trips to the ocean, vacations on the lakes of Maine and NH, kayaking with friends, and peaceful evenings spent relaxing by the fire pit on their back deck.
Kevin was a cherished son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his wife and his brothers, Steven and his wife Linda, Brian and his wife Brenda, his beloved golden retriever Norway, and many extended-family members. A bright light on earth, Kevin is now a bright light in heaven. He will be deeply missed by all who were touched by his friendship, generosity, and love.
