Jonathan Edward Patt, 72, passed away peacefully at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, NH, on July 8, 2025, after an unexpected illness. Jonathan was born on November 27, 1952, in South Weymouth, MA to Donald Patt and Justine Litchfield. He attended Belmont High School in Belmont, MA, graduating in 1970, and went on to attend Bradley University in Peoria, IL, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1974.
After college, he worked a variety of jobs before settling into his long-term career as a senior principal technical writer – a career that spanned over 40 years until his retirement in 2021.
In 1986, he met the love of his life, Susan, and they wed on September 10, 1988. Shortly thereafter, they settled in Amherst, NH, where they welcomed their three daughters: Victoria, Sarah, and Camden. They relocated to Milford, NH in 2017.
Jonathan was an adventurer at heart, with an open mind and a curious streak that led him to pursue many passions over the years, including (but not limited to) woodworking, drawing, music, cooking, and language learning. With a ferocious sense of humor, he was known for his groan-worthy dad jokes and was particularly fond of embracing the silly. He was a devoted father and husband and was endlessly proud of his three daughters.
Consumed by wanderlust, he loved to travel the world. Throughout his 72 years, he visited places such as Paris, Seville, Florence, Budapest, St. Petersburg, and Bangalore – but at the end of the day, his favorite destinations were the cabin on Welch Island and the campsite at Granger Pond.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Patt (née Steele); his daughters, Victoria Patt-Timmerman and her husband, Brian Timmerman; Sarah Patt and her partner, Maxwell Zsofka; and Camden Patt and her fiancé, Zachary Keding. He is also survived by his brothers Stephen (Laura) Patt, Andrew (Theresa) Patt, and Anthony (Dagmar Schröter) Patt; his sisters-in-law, Pamela Phillips and Barbara (Michael) Mullins; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Patt; his mother, Justine Greenman (née Litchfield, formerly Patt); his father-in-law, Carleton Steele; and his mother-in-law, Norma Steele (née Arnold).
Calling hours will be held at Smith & Heald Funeral Home in Milford, NH, on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
He will be loved for all eternity and missed beyond measure.
