Emblem

Jon-Reed Hathaway, 69 of Milford, NH, passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2025. He was a man of complexities—sometimes difficult, often independent, but always uniquely himself. A husband, father, grandfather, and Navy veteran, he lived his life on his own terms.

Born on August 27, 1955 in Rolla, MO, Jon joined the United States Navy right out of high school, an experience that left a lasting impression on him. His time in uniform was a point of pride that he carried throughout his life. The strength and perseverance he gained in the Navy helped him face his medical challenges later in life with courage and determination.

Jon and his wife Marianne resided in Milford, NH, with their daughter, son-in-law and their children. He was a husband and father who did the best he could, in the way he knew how. He was a steady presence in his daughter’s life and was adored by his grandchildren. He loved his family, even if he didn’t always say it out loud. Those who knew him best understood that his actions spoke louder than his words.

He enjoyed anything to do with Volkswagens and for many years participated in car shows and events in the area, earning him the love and respect of a diverse community of friends. As his health declined, he spent time living vicariously through the online adventures of other automobile enthusiasts. He could always be counted on for a long-winded story, words of advice or a “punny” joke. He had a unique sense of humor that kept everyone on their toes.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marianne, his daughter Victoria Moynahan and her husband Brian and their 4 children, Joseph, Caleb, James and Kathryn, each of whom carry forward a part of him—his strength, his stubbornness, and his independent spirit. He was predeceased by his parents, Malcolm and Patricia Hathaway. Other survivors include his 4 siblings and their spouses: Jacqueline and Cory Scott of Reidsville, NC; Debra and Daniel Mosholder of Reidsville, NC; Malcolm and Beth Hathaway of Maynard, MA; and Elizabeth and Scott Brulotte of Gilmanton, NH; his wife’s siblings and their spouses; as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Jon’s family would like to thank Juliya, Angela and their amazing team at the Southern New Hampshire Dialysis Center in Milford; as well as his care team at the Manchester VA for all the support they gave to him over the last several years.
