Harold "Harry" N. Kluis, Hollis, NH, formerly of New London, CT, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 10th after a long battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his wife Marie Houvener Kluis of Hollis, NH and his first wife Kay Kluis of New London, CT. Harry was the beloved stepfather of Bob Houvener and his wife Karen of Hollis, NH and Lisa DiMare and her husband Michael of Boxford, MA as well as his four granddaughters: Laurie and Allie Houvener of Hollis, NH and Kira and Karina DiMare of Boxford, MA. Harry was the son of Dutch immigrants, Nicholas and Jennie (Vanderben) Kluis and grew up with his sisters Margaret (Kluis) Peplau and Isabelle (Kluis) Vlaun in Middletown, CT. He attended Chapman Technical High School in New London, CT. After graduating he enlisted in the Army and honorably served in the Korean War. Many a story was told to all about his days in the war. When Harry returned from Korea he began working at Pfizer in Groton, CT and stayed there for more than 30 years. He retired from Pfizer, but always a hard worker and on the move, he worked full time with his best friend Tony at their tree farm in Waterford, CT long into retirement. He traveled extensively with Marie. Harry enjoyed time spent with family, especially his granddaughters at the lake and will be sorely missed by all. Other family members include a niece, Janet Waldron of South Windsor, CT; three nephews and their wives, Rich and Beth Vlaun of Williamsburg, VA, Ray and Dianne Vlaun of Groton, CT, Scott and Zizi Vlaun of Otisfield, ME. A visiting hour will be held on Saturday, September 15th from 10:30-11:30am in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will follow at 11:30am in the funeral home. Burial will be in East Cemetery, Hollis, NH, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Community Hospice House, c/o Home Health & Hospice Care, 7 Executive Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054.
