George Cosmo, 85, resident of Amherst, NH died on March 1, 2016 at the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. He was born in East Providence, RI on December 22, 1930, a son of Vincent and Maria (Souza) Cosmo. He was raised and educated in East Providence and graduated from East Providence High School in 1948 and earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1961. Mr. Cosmo made his home in Amherst, NH for the past 47 years. He been employed as an electrical engineer all of his working life and had worked for Kollsman Instruments, Unitrode Corporation and retired from Texas Instruments, Merrimack, NH Following his retirement, he worked part time for Source Surveillance. He was an avid baseball fan and loved watching the Boston Red Sox and spending time in his garden. He also enjoyed golfing and had been a member of the Senior League at Ponemah Green in Amherst. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and most especially cherished spending time with his family. Mr. Cosmo was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Korean War. Family members include his wife of 55 years, Jane M. (Schattle) Cosmo of Amherst, NH; two sons, George F. Cosmo of Northhampton, MA and Kenneth J. Cosmo of Amherst, NH; a sister, Inez Jason and her husband Robert of East Providence, RI; a brother, Dennis Cosmo of FL; many nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours are on Monday, March 7th from 4:00-6:30 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Amherst in the spring. Donations in his memory may be made to St. John Neumann Church Day Away Program, 708 Milford Road, Merrimack, NH 03054.
