Retired Army National Guard Master Sergeant Frederick T. Murphy, Jr., 76, resident of Milford, NH died on January 21, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Newburyport, MA on March 13, 1937, a son of Frederick T. Murphy, Sr. and Margaret (Foley) Murphy. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, Newburyport and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Bentley College, Waltham, MA. Mr. Murphy made his home in Milford for the past 12 years and formerly lived in North Andover, MA for 25 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served 14 years and retired from the Massachusetts Army National Guard with 20 years of service. Mr. Murphy was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a Comptroller for Latin America United Fruit and owner of Francis P. McCann Company liquor store in Lawrence, MA. He was a member and past president of Massachusetts Liquor Association. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and had visited over 60 countries making his home in Costa Rica for several years. In addition, he loved boating. Family members include his wife of 54 years, Clara A. (Cullen) Murphy of Milford; a son, Paul F. Murphy of Kensington, NH; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Richard Witham of Palm Coast, FL; two grandchildren, Samuel and Jacob Murphy; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Whitman of Methuen, MA; several nieces and nephews; special family friends, Hope and Raymond Monaham of Wakefield, NH. Funeral services are private. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Home Health & Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054.
