Elizabeth (Frye) Backeberg

Elizabeth (Frye) Backeberg, 94, longtime resident of Wilton, NH, died on November 11, 2025, after a period of declining health.

She was born on March 3, 1931, in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late Whitney and Dorothy (Washburn) Frye. For many years Betty's father, Whitney, owned and operated Frye's Measure Mill.

Betty was raised in her quaint New England town of Wilton, NH. She attended the High Mowing School.

For many years Betty resided in California before returning to Wilton, NH following the passing of her mother, Dorothy in 1992. She remained in the family homestead till a few years ago when her health required her to have more care.

Betty received her master’s in early childhood education from Plymouth State College.  She worked for many years as a teacher, nurse’s aide, salesperson and home childcare provider.

She enjoyed art, painting and drawing, reading, classical music, films, auctions and the joys of nature.

Survivors include a niece, nephew and many close friends.

SERVICES: A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. Burial will follow in the family plot, Vale End Cemetery, Wilton, NH.
