David W. Sheldon, 90, resident of Brookline, NH, died peacefully Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Scott Farrar Home, Peterborough, NH, after a period of declining health. He was born on June 27, 1935, in Johnstown, PA, a son of the late John and Melba (Strick) Sheldon.
Dave served in the Navy and went on to work as a missile engineer at Raytheon for 36 years. He did a lot of traveling with his work for Raytheon and felt fortunate to live in Sweden for several years.
Skilled with working with his hands, he built some beautiful pieces of furniture and carved many life-like birds. He tied his own flies for fly fishing and spent many hours standing in his favorite rivers in Maine and New Hampshire. He also had the patience and skill to restore antique tractors.
Dave volunteered with NH Fish and Game in their salmon restoration program and taught school children about the life cycle of salmon with the Adopt-a-Salmon program.
Dave enjoyed life. He was considerate, friendly and outgoing to all he met. He loved talking with people and seeing them smile. Dave will be greatly missed by many who became good friends over the years.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joan Sheldon of Brookline, NH, his sister Sharon McCally of Mineral Point, PA, daughter Lisa Rissler and her husband Allen of Harrison,AR, two grandchildren, Eric and Lindsay, and a great-granddaughter, Isabel.
SERVICES: A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Brookline, NH. All are invited to meet directly at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dave can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
