Dana K. Mayhew, 79, resident of Amherst, NH, died on June 3, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hoyttown, Maine on May 3, 1934, a son of Carroll and Ada (Elsmore) Mayhew. He graduated from Cherryfield Academy, Cherryfield, ME and earned his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maine, Orono. Mr. Mayhew made his home in Amherst for more than 50 years. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he had been employed as an electrical engineer for Sanders Associates for 31 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and snowmobiling; spending more than 25 summers at their summer cottage in East Boothbay, Maine. He most especially loved spending time with his family. Mr. Mayhew was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jacqueline Elaine Sexton; a brother, Robert Mayhew; and a sister, Eleanor Richardson. Family members include his wife with whom he would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on June 18th, Elaine M. (Lawrence) Mayhew of Amherst; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carroll and Terryjo Mayhew of Northfield, NH, Steven and Winona Mayhew of Wilton, NH; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Sexton of Milford, NH, Karen and Jeffrey Sickler of Milford; 16 Grandchildren; 4Great Grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Phylis and Joseph Sproul of Cherryfield, ME; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Memorial visiting hours are Friday, June 7th from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am in the First Baptist Church of Amherst, 25 ½ Middle Street, Amherst, NH. Burial will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst, at a later date.
