Charles F. Wiseman, 62, resident of Lyndeborough, NH, died on September 26, 2023 at his home.
Charlie was born on September 25, 1961 in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Charles Wiseman and Anne (Murray) Wiseman. He was raised and educated in Andover, MA, having graduated from Phillips Academy in 1979. Charlie played football, hockey, baseball, wrote for the school newspaper and performed in the theater. He went on to attend Denison College where he proved himself a man ahead of his time, dropping out after only a year to follow the Grateful Dead.
Our merry prankster went on to raise two daughters in Barrington, RI, where he was a devoted father and coach. He spent his professional life in sales, leading teams at AT&T, Verizon, and MegaFoods into the number one spot time and time again with the energy, enthusiasm, and humor for which he was always known.
Upon the passing of his parents, Charlie’s generosity of spirit extended to his brother Jim, who had MS. Charlie took on the full time care of his brother for the next twelve years, until Jim’s passing in 2018. Charlie went on to make his home in the mountains of New Hampshire, where he adopted a more organic lifestyle. There you would often find him in his apple orchard, walking his two pitbull rescues, thinking about a new story to tell and an irreverent way to tell it.
Charlie’s true passion was writing. He was never without a notebook and continued writing to his last days. One of his most enduring projects was a script he co-wrote called Grace, a film released in 2018.
In November of 2019, Charlie was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Like everything else in life, he met this challenge with a rapier wit and fierce sense of humor. Even after he lost a leg, he laughed. And when the cancer travelled to his spine, still he joked on, his childlike spirit unwavering. Charlie was a bright light, bringing laughter to every room he entered, and a four year battle with cancer would not change that. When he passed away, he had a smile on his face that remained well after he was gone, a reminder that “once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.”
Family members include his loving wife, Laura (Getchell) Wiseman of Lyndeborough, NH; his first wife, Julie Dodge; his daughters, Caroline (Deja) and Katie (Generazio); sons-in-law, Greg (Deja) and Richard (Generazio); six grandchildren, Christopher, Samantha, Teddy, Ben (Deja), Louis and Patrick (Generazio); sister, Anne French, brother-in-law, Jay French, niece, Mary French and nephew, John French.
