Charles W. Dodd

Charles W. Dodd of Mont Vernon died on July 24, 2025.

Our family is saddened to share the news that Charlie died suddenly but peacefully in his sleep as the sun began to rise over East Grand Lake in Orient, Maine, four days after the celebration of his 50th wedding anniversary with Anne.

Charlie was born on Nov. 16,1952, in Waterbury, CT, the third child of Malcom Joseph and Virginia Sage (Smith) Dodd. He was welcomed by his brother, Michael, and his sister, Louise (nicknamed Weegie). He attended schools in Litchfield, CT, and earned a BSME at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1974. While at WPI he met Anne McPartland and a lifelong partnership began; they married on July 19, 1975.

Together, Charlie and Anne raised their two treasured daughters, Emily and Laura, in Mont Vernon, NH. Later, they joyously welcomed grandchildren Bridget and Fletcher.

Charlie worked for 30 years at Hitchiner Manufacturing in Milford, NH, and happily retired at age 55 to pursue other interests, including learning to cook. He proudly rode 100 miles on his red bicycles in the Prouty fundraiser for several years. He served in various community roles including Mont Vernon School Board chair and treasurer of St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Amherst. He walked innumerable miles with his faithful companion, Guapo, a brown rescue dog, which caused him to wonder who rescued whom. Charlie was an avid cyclist and a golf enthusiast. He loved to keep up with the news and to keep his mind sharp with Sudoku. He and Anne delighted in travel, visiting Mexico and Europe many times.

Charlie had an uncommon ability to enjoy the smallest moments in life, balanced with an unending drive toward incremental but continual personal improvement. He had an easy laugh, a quick wit for puns, and loved to sit on the breezeway of the family home soaking the sun into his bones and his soul. Charlie was able to experience almost all of the things he wanted to in this life.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Weegie. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Anne; his daughter Emily Dodd and her partner, Joseph Hedrick, his daughter Laura Schulke and her husband, Tyler Schulke; grandchildren Bridget and Fletcher Schulke; brother Michael, eight sisters-in law, Druellen Dodd, Nancy Olt, Margaret Bean, Elise Klysa, Hollie McPartland, Carla McPartland, Mary Waring, Sarah McPartland-Good, four brothers-in-law James McPartland, and Frank McPartland, Dean Waring, and Shawn Good, 12 nieces and nephews, and 9 grandnieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of Our Saviour in Milford, NH, followed by a Celebration of Life from 2-4 p.m. at The Black Forest Café in Amherst.

The family is grateful for the remembrances received in honor of Charlie. Please hug your dear ones a little more often and perhaps listen with them to Charlie and Anne’s song, “Happy Together” by the Turtles.

Donations in Charlie’s honor would be welcomed by Breakthrough T1D (formerly The Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund), PO Box 5042, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or SHARE Outreach, 1 Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055.
