Alfred Comolli

Alfred “Al” Comolli passed away peacefully on Thursday July 21, 2011 with his family by his side. Al was a long time resident of Yardley, PA, who was born in Brattleboro, Vermont and spent his childhood in Westerly, Rhode Island. Al enjoyed life and was active with his family and career. He enjoyed travel, either business or personal, often accompanied with his wife. Lake Como in Italy, where Al’s parents originated, was a favorite destination. He looked forward to the opera, especially new performances, and enjoyed escargots and oysters, which he amusingly rated by restaurant. He often dropped everything to play with his nephews, and later his children or grandchildren, easily reverting to his childhood. Al was extremely proud to have served as a commissioned officer in the US Army. He was an accomplished chemical engineer who spent much of his career focused on polymers, catalysts, and alternative energy. He was an inventor on over fifteen patents, many of which were licensed and are regularly used today. For his achievements and contributions to the field, Al was awarded “Engineer of the Year” by the Central Jersey Engineering Council. He started and led Hydrocarbon Technologies Inc. (HTI), an employee-owned company focused on new energy technologies, along with several other smaller companies. He will be greatly missed by his wife and best friend Helen, his daughter Gia, son-in-law Dino Liva, and grandson Alex of Topsham, ME; his daughter Dina of New York, NY; and his son Jim, daughter-in-law Kristine Burgess, and granddaughter Olivia of Boxborough, MA. He is survived by his two brothers, Richard of Westerly, RI and Ferdinand of Bethany Beach, DE, his sister, Marion Rizzardini of Charleston, SC, and many nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 26th at 10:00 am in St. Patricks Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford. In accordance with Al’s wishes, he will be laid to rest in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery in Milford, NH. Al requested that donations, if desired, be made in his name to Multiple Sclerosis Society (www.nationalmssociety.org).
