Roger D. Lavallee, 84, of Amherst, NH, died Wednesday March 8, 2017 after a protracted battle with Cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family in his passing, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. Roger was born February 17, 1933 to the late Joseph and Eva Lavallee in Hudson, NH. He married the love of his life on July 17, 1954, Shirley M. Trombly (Lavallee). They were blessed to spend 62 fruitful and happy years together. Roger dedicated 20 years of his life to the United States Air Force. Relocating upon deployment multiple times around the world, along with his family. His final station was Hanscom Air Force Base, MA, where he retired in 1972. He then purchased land in Amherst, NH, where he proceeded to pridefully clear the property and build the family home, from the foundation up, with his own hands. He had great love for this home and all the landscape surrounding it. Roger and Shirley have happily lived there for 45 years. He worked at Millipore Corporation in Bedford, MA in Facility Maintenance and Security for 19 years and at Souhegan High School in Amherst, NH in Grounds and Facility Maintenance and Management for 6 years. Roger was a humble and very private man. Although, all who had the privilege of knowing him held him in the highest regard. He was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grand-father, role model, mentor, hero and best friend. At times, he could be stubborn and opinionated, but he had a big heart under his tough exterior. His humor alone will resonate within all of us. We rejoice in the memories that best represent the happy times that we shared with him, whether it be swimming at the lakes and oceans, fishing and hunting, nights peering up under the stars, celebrations at the family home and all our individual special time with him that we each shared. His “Eternal Love” for his wife Shirley, was paramount to him and we will honor his love and surround her with our own. Cancer was his nemesis, yet he will be remembered as the strongest man we have ever known. The battle he fought, all though heart breaking, was awe-inspiring. He was a great warrior of life and living. The void we feel without him is epic. The reverence is grand. It is a great loss, but we will each carry him in our hearts eternally. Roger is survived by three siblings and their spouses, Rita Nadreau (and Armand) of Nashua, NH, Maurice Lavallee (and Margarette) of Brooksville, FL, and Carol Latour (and Donald) of Brooksville, FL. He is also survived by his wife, Shirley Lavallee of Amherst, NH and their four children and their spouses, Keith D. Lavallee (and Lynn) of Manchester, NH, Angela L. Wellington (and Robert) of Hookset, NH, Lorrie A. Wright (and David) of Hill, NH, and Candice D. Cocuzzo (and Guy) of Keller, TX. Roger and Shirley shared their love with abundance as they governed over their entire family, including their 13 surviving grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. A private service was held on Saturday March 11, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Church in Milford, NH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory or honor of Roger Lavallee to the Cancer Research Center (cancerresearch.org) or to the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH (hhhc.org).
