Richard L. Cormier, 83, resident of Derry, died unexpectedly on June 3, 2012 at his home. He was born in Waterville, Maine on December 30, 1928, a son of Leo and Irene (Saucier) Cormier. Mr. Cormier resided in Derry for a short time and formerly lived in Amherst, NH and Newport Richey, FL for several years and Tewksbury, MA for 25 years. He was employed as an electronic technician for Raytheon Corporation, Andover, MA for many years. Mr. Cormier was an avid sports fan who enjoyed hockey and especially Tewksbury High School football. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947 with the rank of Seaman Second Class. He was a member of Ricciardi Hartshorn Unit #23, American Legion, Milford. Mr. Cormier was predeceased by a daughter, Penny Cormier and a son, Brian S. Cormier. Family members include his wife of 63 years, Sally (Dunham) Cormier of Derry; two sons, Richard L. Cormier, Jr. of Chelmsford, MA, David L. Cormier and Linda Contorelli of Methuen, MA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine E. and Alvin Long of Amherst, NH, Denise G. and Robert Allard of Tewksbury, MA; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a brother, Louis Cormier of Zeigler, IL; a sister, Christine Duncan of Atlanta, GA; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are Friday, June 8th from 5:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am in Meadowview Cemetery, Foundry Street, Amherst. Everyone is invited to meet directly at the cemetery.
