Marion M. Sortevik, 88, died on August 30, 2017 at Bedford Hills Healthcare Center, Bedford, NH. She was born in Boston on August 12, 1929 to Edward and Catherine (McCartin) McPhail. She was a graduate of Girls Latin School in 1947 and was class president. Prior to moving to Bedford, NH several years ago, Mrs. Sortevik had been a resident of Amherst, NH since 1964 and formerly resided in Weymouth, MA. She worked for Jordan Marsh Co. in Bedford, NH and was Treasurer for the Town of Amherst from 1970 to 1991. She was a founder and first president of the Amherst Junior Women’s Club in 1965, a library trustee for six years and a member of the Friends of the Library. She and her late husband, Harding, were Citizens of the Year in 1984. In addition, she enjoyed ballroom dancing with Harding. She was predeceased by her husband, Harding Sortevik, who died in 2013; a son, Paul Sortevik, who died in 2015; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and John Clegg. Family members include a son, Terrance Sortevik and his wife, Lisa of Kingsland, TX; two daughters, Susan Richardson and her husband, Royal of Chester, NH, and their children Kelsey & Andrew and Laurie Sortevik of Pembroke, NH and her children Jennifer Cheney and Colby Sortevik, his wife Emily and their daughter Lindsey; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Share Outreach, Inc., One Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford.
