Marilyn E. Chopel, 83, resident of Mason, NH and formerly of Catasauqua, PA, died January 8, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Chopel. She was born in Allentown, PA, on June 4, 1930, a daughter of the late Emil and Caroline (Edgar) Onuschak. She was a graduate of the Catasauqua High School, class of 1948 and she also received an Associate’s Degree from the Allentown Business School. Her last place of employment was the Administration Office for the Catasauqua Area School District where she worked for 24 years. She moved to Mason, NH where she resided for 13 years with her daughter and son-in-law. For most of her life she made her home in Catasauqua where she leaves behind many friends and neighbors. Marilyn enjoyed knitting, reading, gardening, shopping, talking with friends and watching birds in her flower garden. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Joann and Ronald Schaeffer of Mason, NH, Carol and George Geiges of Newfoundland, PA, Janet and Gary Piatt of Allentown, PA, a brother Emil Onuschak Jr. and wife LaVerne of Wilmington, DE, 3 grandchildren, Captain George Michael Geiges, Jr, USAF, who has served in Afghanistan and Africa, Tanya (Piatt) Golden and her husband James, Aaron Piatt, step granddaughter, Jennifer (Piatt) Jandrisevitz and her husband Randy, one great grandson and two step great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a family of beloved pets that she adored and who adored her. She was predeceased by a baby sister, Helen Marie Onuschak. A private memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Catasauqua on April 26th at 2:00 p. m. with burial in Fairview Cemetery, West Catasauqua, PA. A celebration of life reception will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Church Chapel for all who wish to attend.
