Manuel A. DeSilva, SFC, U.S Army (Ret.), 77, resident of Milford, NH, died December 31, 2011 at the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH, after a period of declining health. He was born in Mount Kisco, New York, on March 28, 1934, the son of Josephine H. (Giampietro) DeSilva of NY and the late Manuel P. DeSilva. A resident of the Milford-Mont Vernon area since 1970, Manuel spent 8 years of his retirement in Oak Island, NC. His military career spanned more than two decades. He was stationed in Iceland and Germany and completed two tours in Vietnam. He received numerous citations and medals, including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/palm, and retired from the U.S. Army in 1975. Mr. DeSilva was an avid reader who enjoyed Sherlock Holmes. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and taking care of animals. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. In addition to his mother, family members include his wife of 56 years, Mary E. (Curtis) DeSilva of Milford, NH; four children, David M. DeSilva of Charlotte, NC, William T. DeSilva of Manchester, NH, Cathleen A. Noyes of Mont Vernon, NH and Jacqueline A. Weber of Milford, NH; 12 Grandchildren; 2 Great-Granddaughters; a sister, Joanne Farrington of NY; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at a later date.
