Lucy E. Ramsay, 86, longtime resident of Amherst, NH, died December 6, 2010 at The Courville, Manchester, NH. She was born in Milton, MA on February 13, 1924, a daughter of the late James A. and Beatrice (Barker) Montgomery. She was raised and educated in Milton, MA where she graduated from high school and attended Green Mountain College, Poultney, Vermont. Mrs. Ramsay made her home in Amherst for more than 50 years where she was very active in the community. She was a founder of the Jack and Jill Kindergarten in Amherst, a member of Questers, Colonial Dames, Amherst Historical Society, Garden Club, Friends of the Amherst Library and a member of the Book Selection Committee. In addition, she was a member of the Congregational Church of Amherst, UCC. She was predeceased by her husband, David T. Ramsay, who died in 2006. Family members include her son and daughter-in-law, James M. and Sarah E. Ramsay of Amherst, NH; a daughter, Leslie A. Ramsay of Manchester, NH; three grandchildren, Hadley Q. Ramsay, Emily S. Ginsberg and Caleb E. Ginsberg; several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Courville at Manchester, 44 Webster Street, Manchester, NH 03104.
