Retired Air Force Master Sergeant James F. Swain, 77, resident of Temple, NH, died on January 14, 2014 at his home. He was born in Quincy, MA on January 1, 1937, a son of Alexander and Anna (Steele) Swain and was raised and educated in Quincy. He graduated from Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island. After graduating from college, Master Sgt. Swain entered the Air Force and served for 20 years. A veteran of the Vietnam Era, he was honorably discharged on January 31, 1975 with the rank of master sergeant after receiving numerous commendations and service awards. Following his military retirement, he had been employed by Pinkerton Detective Services for many years. Mr. Swain made his home in Temple for the past 25 years and formerly lived in Southborough, MA for 20 years. He enjoyed traveling especially to Hawaii and spending time on his short wave radio. In addition, he was an avid Boston Red Sox and Celtics fan. Mr. Swain was predeceased by a son, Alexander Swain, who died in 2004. Family members include his wife of 26 years, Nancy (Hart) Swain of Temple; a son, Robert J. Swain of Salem, MA; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are on Friday, January 17th from 5:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in the funeral home, followed by cremation.
