James A. Dewitt

Volunteer fire Captain and Navy veteran James Adrian DeWitt, 61, passed away after a brief illness at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH on October 7th, 2017 surrounded by his family and their love. Jim was born on July 14, 1956 in Attleboro, Massachusetts, a son of James C. DeWitt, DVM and Pauline M. (Denbroeder) DeWitt. He was raised and educated in North Attleboro, MA where he had worked with his father at the DeWitt Animal Hospital. He graduated from Bishop Feehan High School, Class of 1974 and the University of Lowell in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He continued his post grad education at UNH, Durham and Johns Hopkins, Maryland. He worked at BAE Systems, Nashua, NH, as a systems engineer for more than 20 years and traveled extensively throughout the world. With bravery, kindness, and love, Jim dedicated his life to family, friends and serving his community. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Milford and rose to the rank of Captain in the Town of Mont Vernon. Jim brought love, laughter and security to all those around him and shared those values with his children and grandchildren. Jim is survived by his wife, Janna (Egizi) Lee DeWitt; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sara DeWitt and Jessica and Ogieva Guobadia; two granddaughters, Angela and Vanessa; his siblings, Paula Conway, William DeWitt, Judy Aubin, Nancy Dorrance and Daniel DeWitt; many nieces, nephews and extended family. Memorial visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 11th from 5:00-8:00pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH.
