MANCHESTER --- Frederick Young, 93, husband of Mary (Adams) Young, died July 28, 2007 after a period of declining health. He was born March 5, 1914 in Milford, NH to Andrew and Jessie (Duncan) Young who imigrated to the United States in 1913 from Aberdeen, Scotland. He was the 6th child of 10 children and the first to be born in the United States. Mr. Young was raised and educated in Milford and had resided in Manchester for over 50 years. He graduated from Milford High School in 1933. He was then employed at the French and Heald Furniture Company. He served in the U.S. Army in Word War II he entered at Ft. Devens in 1942, graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, went overseas and served in the 460th Engineer Depot in North Africa, France and Belgium. He was discharged in 1942 as a First Lieutenant. He then served in the National Guard and was discharged as a Captain. After the war, he was employed by the State of NH, Department of Weights & Measures as a Metrologist, retiring in 1979. Mr. Young was a member of the Washington Lodge #61, F & AM, Manchester, since 1960. He was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. Wilfred (Agnes) Poirier and six brothers, Alex, Andrew, Donald, Douglas, George and William. In addition to his wife with whom he celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on June 29th, he is survived by two daughters, Mary Janet of Manchester, Joanne of Arvada, CO; a son, Frederick of Maine; two sisters Mrs. T.R. (Jane) Langdell of Milford, Mrs. Sam (Margaret) Villane of Gulf Breeze, FL; nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours are Tuesday, July 31st from 5:30-7:30 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. Donations in his memory may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Boston, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114 or a charity of your choice. Smith & Heald Funeral Home, Milford, is in charge of arrangements.
