Florence L. (Young) Smith Johnson, 85, resident of Manchester, NH, died December 5, 2010 at Hackett Hill Healthcare Center, Manchester, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in New Boston, NH on October 5, 1925, a daughter of the late John A. and Maysie (Horton) Young. She was raised and educated in Amherst where she resided for many years and had also lived in Nashua for more than 20 years. Stricken with polio at age 25, she courageously continued to raise her three children, work and volunteer. Florence had been employed by Indian Head National Bank of Nashua for many years. In addition, she had been the director for the Friendship Club of Nashua, which she was affiliated with for over 30 years. Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In recent years, Florence discovered a handicapped accessible limousine service which allowed her to enjoy outings with friends. She will be missed for her beauty, her positive attitude and the confidence she always displayed and instilled in others. She was predeceased by her husbands, Robert E. Smith and Donald H. Johnson; a son, Thomas R. Smith; and a son-in-law, Robert Androski. Family members include her daughter, Sharyn S. Androski of Manchester, NH; a son, Peter E. Smith and his wife, Denise Dawson-Smith of Raymond, NH; a daughter-in-law, Mary Smith of Manchester, NH; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a brother, Maurice “Jake” Young of Amherst, NH; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Donald (Marion) Young of Amherst, NH; numerous nieces and nephews. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 10th at 10:00 am in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. Burial will follow in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to March of Dimes-NH Chapter, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 419, Concord, NH 03301
