Charles D. Norrod, 88, resident of the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Tilton, died February 27, 2011 at Franklin Regional Hospital, Franklin, NH. He was born in Crawford, TN on October 30, 1922, a son of Fletcher J. and Viola Norrod. Mr. Norrod had lived in Londonderry, NH for several years and formerly resided in Nashua, NH for 5 years and Mount Clemens, Michigan for more than 50 years. He had been employed as a maintenance supervisor for UPS for many years. Mr. Norrod loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Norrod was one of only two that survived when their PT boat came under attack in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Naval Hospital, San Leando, CA on December 27, 1944 as a result of wounds he received in action. Mr. Norrod was predeceased by his wife whom he adored, Bonnie G. (Phillips) Norrod, who died in 2007; and their daughter, Donna Petty. Family members include a son, James D. Norrod of Nashua, NH; four grandchildren, Heather Smith of Amherst, NH, April Pedroza of Milford, NH, William Petty of Derry, NH and Tami Petty of New York, NY; six great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and Vickie Norrod of Tyngsboro, MA. There are no visiting hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, March 4th, at 1:00 pm in Riverside Cemetery, 454 Nashua Street, Milford, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, One Bedford Farms Drive, Suite 105, Bedford, NH 03110.
