LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE
Dec 21, 2016 07:00 PM
Christmas is a painful time for many. It may be the first Christmas without a loved family member who has recently died or moved away or a time without friends or family nearby or a time that has just always been difficult. The constant refrain on radio and television, in stores and churches, about the happiness of the season and getting together with family and friends is a reminder of what has been lost or never had. The anguish of broken relationships, the insecurity of unemployment, the weariness of ill health, the pain of isolation – all these can make us feel alone in the midst of the celebrating and spending around us. Spirits sink, as the days grow shorter and darkness grows longer. Many need space and time to acknowledge sadness and concern and need to know that there are others that feel it too.
Milford United Methodist Church, 327 North River Road, Milford, NH, will be offering a “Longest Night” service on Wednesday, December 21st at 7 p.m. Hear prayers, scripture, and music acknowledging that God’s presence is also for those who mourn, for those who struggle and that God’s Word comes to shine light into darkness. Everyone regardless of church background (or lack of it) is welcome.
